While surfing the internet last night, I came across this charming bedroom designed by Wimke. As you can imagine, I was instantly smitten by the mixture of textures, from the granny blanket to that gorgeous bunting, and the lovely mix of  colours of the square afghan.

Of course I had to put together a wee 'get the look' guide. I adore how simple and accessible this look is. So, follow the links and recreate it in your home.

Mientras navegaba por internet anoche, me encontré con este encantador dormitorio diseñado por Wimke. Como pueden imaginar, quedé encantada con la mezcla de texturas, desde la manta granny hasta esa preciosa guirnalda, y la bonita combinación de colores de la cobija a cuadros.

Everybody is talking about their 2016 goals so I decided to set mine.
Despite being an extremelly organized person, I don't normally have a fixed plan for my creative process. But this year, I'd like to put my ideas in order and write them down so I don't miss a thing :)

Todo el mundo está hablando de sus objetivos para el 2016 así que decidí establecer los míos.
A pesar de ser una persona extremadamente organizada, normalmente no tengo un plan fijo en mi proceso creativo. Pero este año, me gustaría poner mis ideas en orden y escribirlas así no me olvido de nada :)

I want my 2016 to be a year that teaches me new crafting techniques... I want to learn this year and learn a lot!
I'll tell you some new techniques I'm eager to try. I know I'll forget some but I have to start somewhere ;)

Quiero que mi 2016 sea un año que me enseñe nuevas técnicas artísticas...Quiero aprender este año y aprender un montón!
Les voy a contar algunas de las técnicas que estoy ansiosa por intentar. Sé que me voy a olvidar de algunas pero tengo que empezar por algún lado ;)

My first weaving :)

• WEAVING: I became deeply interested in weaving. I love looking at those beautiful pictures in Instagram...they are so inspiring! I decided to give it a shot so I cut a shoe box and made a loom. I really liked the result but I know I need to buy a REAL weaving loom and make A LOT of reasearch on how to improve the technique | TELAR: Me he interesado profundamente en el telar. Amo mirar esas hermosas imágenes en Instagram...son tan inspiradoras! Decidí intentarlo así que corté una caja de zapatos e hice un bastidor. Realmente me gustó el resultado pero sé que necesito comprar un bastidor real e investigar mucho para mejor la técnica.

• TAPESTRY CROCHET: I'm in love with Molla Mills work...the combination of  black and white and  the geometric shapes make every item look just perfect! I'll definitely have a go at making a basket, a rug, a bag or a cushion using this awesome technique. Luckily, there are several tutorials on the internet to help me achieve this goal :) | TAPESTRY CROCHET o JACQUARD: Estoy enamorada del trabajo de Molla Mills...la combinación del blanco y negro y las formas geométricas hacen que todo luzca perfecto! Definitivamente voy a probar de hacer una canasta, una alfombra, una cartera o un almohadón usando esta estupenda técnica. Por suerte, hay varios tutoriales en internet para ayudarme a conseguir esta meta :)

• KNITTING: Ten years ago, before my son was born, I knitted him a baby blanket. My cousin taught me the basic stitches and I managed to finish it. After that I haven't grabbed a needle again so I completely forgot all about it. This year, I'm commiting myself to knitting something | TEJIDO A DOS AGUJAS: Hace diez años, antes de que mi hijo naciera, le tejí una mantita. Mi prima me enseñó los puntos básicos y logré terminarla. Luego de eso nunca más agarré una aguja así que me olvidé por completo de cómo tejer. Este año, me comprometo a tejer algo.

Origami Spirit

• ORIGAMI: This has nothing to do with yarn but sometimes it feels just fine to step outside the comfort zone and do something different for a change :) I've always been into the Japanese culture...love their food, customs and history but I've never tried origami before. There's something magical in the way you can transform a plain piece of paper into something else | ORIGAMI: Esto nada tiene que ver con la lana pero a veces se siente bien salir de la zona de comfort y hacer algo diferente para cambiar :) Siempre me interesó la cultura japonesa...amo su comida, costumbres y su historia pero nunca había intentado el origami antes. Hay algo de magia en la forma en se puede transformar un simple pedazo de papel en algo más.

Please tell us a bit about yourself. 

Hi I’m Mandy! I’m a mother of three, guesthouse owner, photographer and craft blogger. I am also the Founder of @craftastherapy on Instagram- a project that I am very proud of.

How did you learn to crochet/knit? 

My good friend taught me to crochet a couple of years ago and since then I’ve been slightly addicted. You can do so much with crochet – blankets, toys, pillows, clothes and accessories! And the yarn options these days are endless, which means it’s virtually impossible to get bored of crochet. I think this explains why I love it so much.




What has been your most challenging crochet/knitting piece? 

It’s funny, that one of my simplest projects was my most challenging. It was basically a granny square blanket, made with squares of three rounds. I found it the most challenging because I got bored with it really quickly and grew tired of stitching in all of the ends. It took me a good 10 months to complete it and it wasn’t even that big. In the end I really loved the result.



Where do you find your inspiration?

I find inspiration for my designs in the world around me, whether it’s the colours from a magazine cover or from things I see in nature. I believe you can find inspiration everywhere. I try not to look at other crochet blogs (which is hard!) because I don’t want to inadvertently copy another person’s design. I think it’s really important to have strong design integrity and not be too influenced by others.

What are your top three blogs or crochet artists? 

@littlecosythings, @crochetgirl99 and @carter_and_brown on Instagram are three of fave artists. I love following them because they have different style to me and make me think outside the box.





What is the Craft As Therapy community? How did it begin?

After going through a rather stressful period of my life, I turned to craft as a way to distract myself from the anxiety I was feeling. A self diagnosed 'instagram addict' I began to tag some of my projects with #craftastherapy. I was pretty stunned by the response I received and shortly afterwards many, many fellow crafters started using the tag. It became apparent to me how important craft is as a form of therapy, not just for me, but for many other crafters. Due to the larger number of Instagrammers using the tag, I created a handle called @craftastherapy and invited a group of moderators to jump on board and take turns choosing features from the #craftastherapy tag and posting inspirational messages. The hastag continues to grow, as does the number of followers, and a beautiful community has blossomed.
